King of The Pop est une compilation du chanteur américain Michael Jackson, fêtant son 50^e anniversaire. La première version de cette compilation fut annoncée le 20 juin en Australie. En Europe, la version allemande est la première à être disponible (22 août 2008). Dans chaque pays où Sony Music a décidé de sortir la compilation, la maison de disque invite le public à élire ses chansons préférées par le biais d'un site spécial. Les trente chansons ayant retenu le plus de votes seront incluses dans la compilation. En plus des chansons choisies, un megamix produit par Jason Nevins sera également présent. La compilation est annoncée en Australie, Nouvelle-Zélande, Allemagne,Autriche, Hongrie, Belgique, Royaume-Uni, France, Pays-Bas, Espagne, Pologne, Inde , Russie, Japon, Thailande, Philippines, Hong Kong, Turquie, Mexique, Argentine ainsi qu'au Brésil. La version italienne devrait contenir la version complète de Carousel, un inédit de l'album Thriller. Les États-Unis, quant à eux, sortiront The Essential Michael Jackson 3.0, réédition en version 3 CD de The Essential Michael Jackson(2005).

Les premières versions sont sorties en Europe le 29 août 2008, jour de l'anniversaire du King Of Pop. Ils se sont bien classé, atteignant même la 3^e place dans les charts britannique, 1er position dans les classements autrichiens et suisses et 5^e position dans les charts français. Les sorties de la compilation s'étalent jusqu'au mois de janvier 2009. A ce jour, la compilation s'est vendue a plus d'1,5 million exemplaires.

La mort de Michael Jackson nous fais réfléchir sur le "Pourquoi et le Comment" de sa mort.
