Le single, sorti en novembre 1996, est le 5e (le 6e si l'on inclut This Time Around) et dernier single extrait de l'album. Comme "They Don't Care About Us" il est plus populaire en Europe qu'aux États-Unis. En Angleterre, "Stranger In Moscow" atteint la 4e place, et restera dans le top 100 pendant 16 semaines. En Espagne et Italie, il est numéro un, alors que dans l'Eurochart il atteint la 6e place et cumulera 17 semaines de présence. La chanson Stranger in Moscow a été remixé en 1997, dans l'album de remix Blood on the Dance Floor.
Stranger in Moscow a été écrite et composée par Michael en 1993, alors qu’il enchaînait la deuxième partie du Dangerous World Tour. Probablement entre le 12 et le 18 septembre 1993 lorsqu’il était à Moscou, réfugié dans sa chambre d’hôtel. Comme le fait comprendre le titre, la chanson parle de la solitude que ressentait Michael, qui crie son désespoir. Elle est considérée comme l'une des plus grandes chansons que Jackson n'ait jamais composé.
Le clip
Dans le clip, Michael Jackson marche, alors que tout le reste est au ralenti, pour montrer sa solitude. A la fin, la pluie tombe pour exprimer la colère de Michael face à sa solitude. Ce clip a été réalisé par Nick Brandt, qui a aussi réalisé Childood, Earth Song et Cry.
