Arc de triomphe

Il se compose d'un ou de plusieurs (en général trois) passages dans un massif de maçonnerie, surmontés d'un entablement et d'un attique. Ces ouvrages ont été inaugurés dans la Rome antique. Chacun était dédié à un général victorieux ou à un empereur, et généralement placé à l'entrée de la ville, sauf les arcs de Rome, placés au cœur de la ville.
