Robert Sténuit est un journaliste, écrivain et archéologue sous-marin d'origine belge.
Il a débuté la plongée sous-marine en 1952 par la spéléologie. Il fut ensuite plongeur d'essai dans le programme Man in sea en 1962 à Villefranche-sur-Mer. Il a aussi plongé en saturation à l'héliox.
Après des études en sciences politiques, il commença l'archéologie sous-marine et la recherche d'épaves. Il a créé, en collaboration avec Henri Delauze, (président de la COMEX) le Groupe de recherche archéologique sous-marine post-médiévale qui est à l'origine de l'invention de 19 épaves.
