The Song Remains the Same est le premier disque live de Led Zeppelin, sorti à la fois sous forme d'album et de film en 1976. Enregistré au Madison Square Garden pendant trois nuits lors de la tournée de 1973 du groupe aux États-Unis, le disque est sorti le 28 septembre 1976. La première du film a eu lieu le 20 octobre 1976 à New York, il a été présenté à Londres deux semaines plus tard.

Le film est sorti sur DVD le 31 décembre 1999 et une version Blu-Ray remasterisée contenant six nouveaux titres est sortie le 19 novembre 2007.

Cet album « live » fait preuve d'une grande originalité en présentant des extraits vidéo sur des combats chevaleresques, la moto de John Bonham, une fusillade, ou autres... Ces vidéos mettent en vedette Peter Grant, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones et John Bonham et sont toutes tirées de leur imagination, dressant ainsi un portrait de chacun d'eux.
