  • En écologie, l'altération est un terme plus précisément spécifique à l'agrologie ;
  • en musique, et plus précisément, dans le solfège, une altération renvoie à la modification de la hauteur primitive d'un son, ainsi qu'au symbole représentant cette modification.
  • En géologie, l'altération est la modification chimique et physique des roches, principalement due à l'eau et aux variations de températures et de pressions. L'altération chimique est liée au dioxyde de carbone contenu dans l'eau ainsi qu'à la nature des roches et au milieu climatique.
