Ermanaric (en langue gotique Aírmanareiks, en vieux norrois Jörmunrek(kr), en latin Ermanaricus passé à la langue allemande médiévale Ermenrîch; † 376) fut le roi Ostrogoth attesté historiquement. Il fait partie des Amales. Son royaume était situé en Ukraine actuelle entre les rivières du Don et du Dniestr mais les historiens actuels ne connaissent pas avec précision son étendue.

Ermanaric est mentionné dans deux sources romaines : les Res Gestae d'Ammien Marcellin[1] au IVe siècle et "Getica" de Jordanès[2], au VIe siècle. Selon Ammien, Ermanaric est un "roi très guerrier"[3] craint de ses voisins. Il règne sur un territoire étendu et fertile[4]. Attaqué soudainement par les Huns, il tente de se battre, mais, effrayé par les rumeurs circulant sur ses ennemis, il se suicide. Jordanès, qui vécut plusieurs siècles après les faits, fait un récit plus détaillé que celui d'Ammien, avec lequel il diffère sur plusieurs points. D'après Jordanès, Eramanaric a conquis le territoire de nombreuses tribus guerrières du nord[5].

Jordanès déclare que le roi a mis à mort une jeune femme appelée Sunilda en l'attachant à quatre chevaux sauvages et l'écartèla ainsi, parce que son mari l'avait déloyalement abandonné. Les deux frères de cette dernière, Sarus et Ammius, blessèrent sévèrement Ermanaric. Il existe des variations sur cette dans la littérature germanique médiévale, y compris en Angleterre et en Scandinavie (voir les fils de Jonakr).
