De Verdun à Cayenne

De Verdun à Cayenne (ISBN 978-2-84654-150-3) est un roman biographique écrit par Michel Valette construit autour des notes de Robert Porchet. Il vise à la réhabilitation de la mémoire de ce bagnard déserteur. Albert Jacquard souscrit à ce combat puisqu'il en a signé la préface.

Ce militant pacifiste, mobilisé en première ligne sur le front en 1914, a eu maintes fois un comportement de résistant en risquant le peloton d'exécution pour « refus de tuer ». Après Verdun, il profita d'une occasion pour déserter, mais fut arrêté et durement condamné, pour avoir refusé d'exprimer des regrets, à 12 ans de bagne à Cayenne, ce qui le condamnait à la relégation à vie sur place.

Finalement, c'est le Mouvement International de Résistants à la Guerre qui obtiendra sa libération, puis plus tard la fin de sa relégation.
