Le système explosif BLU-82B/C-130, surnommé le Daisy Cutter lors de la guerre du Viêt Nam et Commando Vault lors de la guerre d'Afghanistan, est une bombe conventionnelle de 6 800 kg transportée par un avion C-130.

Caractéristiques

Conçue à l'origine pour rapidement dégager une parcelle de terre dans les jungles du Viêt Nam, elle a été utilisée en Afghanistan comme une arme anti-personnel, tout comme une arme d'intimidation en raison de son grand rayon d'action (qui se situe entre entre 300 et 900 pieds selon les sources) couplé à un flash lumineux et un bruit détectable à de grandes distances.

Pendant plusieurs décennies, la BLU-82 est restée la plus puissante des bombes conventionnelles. En 2007, ce record appartient au Père de toutes les bombes russe, qui contient 7,8 tonnes d'explosifs à haute puissance.

Historique

Explosion de la dernière BLU-82 sur le Utah Test and Training Range le 15 juillet 2008

Construit à 225 exemplaires, sa première utilisation au combat eu lieu le 23 mars 1970 au Viêt Nam.

Le 15 juillet 2008, la dernière BLU-82 opérationnelle à explosé au-dessus d'un champ de tir de l'Utah[1].
