Synopsis

Les États-Unis d'Amérique sont déchirés par la guerre de Sécession. Ada (Nicole Kidman) se dévoue au service de son père, pasteur veuf, qu'elle aime plus que tout au monde. Inman (Jude Law) n'est qu'un simple ouvrier appelé sous les drapeaux. Il s'engage au côté des confédérés. À la veille de son départ pour le front, leur rencontre et leur baiser volé embrasera pour l'un comme pour l'autre un amour infini.
