Arkle était un cheval pur-sang anglais de robe baie qui fit carrière en steeple chase. Né le 19 avril 1957, il est mort le 31 mai 1970.
Palmarès
Il fit gagner une somme considérable à son propriétaire qui l'avait acheté 1210 livres aux ventes de Dublin. Il a gagné 35 des 70 courses qu'il a courues dont Cheltenham en 1964, le Grand national d'Irlande, le steeple chase du roi George VI et Hennessy. On estime qu'au cours de sa vie, Arkle a dû galoper 150 kilomètres en franchissant 600 obstacles[1]. En 1966, un accident mit un terme prématuré à sa carrière[2].
