Le badge de Knight Bachelor, 1926

L'Insigne de Chevalier (Knight Bachelor’s Badge) est une récompense dont l'origine remonte au règne de Henri III d'Angleterre (1207-1272) qui est attribuée pour services éminents dans tout domaine d’activité.

Elle vaut anoblissement et les récipiendaires ont droit à l’appellation de Sir et leur femme à l’appellation de Dame. Toutefois, ce titre n'est pas héréditaire et le récipiendaire n'a pas le droit aux lettres post-nominales.

L’insigne date de 1926 et a été modifié en 1993. Il comprend une épée pointe en bas et une paire d’éperons. Le ruban est rouge bordé de jaune.

L'écrivain Patrick Leigh Fermor a reçu cette distinction le 1er janvier 2004 et l’acteur Sean Connery en juillet 2000.
