Amchitka est une des îles Aléoutiennes au large de l'Alaska.
Elle fait environ 68 kilomètres de long et entre 3 et 6 km de large. Elle a un climat maritime, et subit de nombreuses tempêtes. C'est aussi un île volcanique.
Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'US Air Force y maintenait une base.
Elle a été utilisée dans les années 1970 lors de tests souterrains de bombe thermonucléaire par les militaires américains (dernier tir en 1971).
