John Foulds (2 novembre 1880 - 25 avril 1939) est un compositeur britannique.

John Foulds fut connu connu de son vivant « pour sa musique légère écrite à des fins alimentaires »[1]. Il est cependant considéré actuellement comme l'un des grands compositeurs britanniques du XIXe siècle. « Il faudra attendre le milieu des années 1980 pour que la production « sérieuse » de cet avant-gardiste original, autodidacte, amateur de théosophie, passionné par l'Inde et les pratiques musicales extra-européennes, ne soient redécouvertes »[1], explique un journaliste du Monde en 2008.

Son Dynamic Triptych op. 88 (1929) est considéré par le journal Le Monde comme étant « peut-être le plus grand concerto pour piano anglais – avant ceux de Ralph Vaughan Williams et Franck Bridge »[1].

  • A World Requiem op. 60 (1918-1921), hommage aux morts de la Première Guerre mondiale qui mêle textes liturgiques, non liturgiques et poèmes, à l’instar du War Requiem de Benjamin Britten (1962). Il est considéré comme un « ancêtre brittenien ».
