John Edgar Wideman

John Edgar Wideman (né le 14 juin 1941 à Washington, DC) est un écrivain américain.

Il passe son enfance à Pittsburgh, dans la communauté noire d'Homewood où se situent la plupart de ses récits. Après des études à l'Université de Pennsylvanie, il est le deuxième Afro-Américain à obtenir la prestigieuse bourse Rhodes pour l'Université d'Oxford, dont il sort diplômé en 1966. Lauréat de nombreux prix littéraires, il est le premier à remporter le PEN/Faulkner Award à deux reprises : en 1984 pour Sent for You Yesterday et en 1990 pour L'Incendie de Philadelphie. Il vit à Amherst et enseigne à l’Université du Massachusetts.
