Innuendo est le dernier album de Queen du vivant de Freddie Mercury. Il sort le 4 février 1991, quelques mois seulement avant la disparition de ce dernier. Innuendo sera alors marqué par une atmosphère sombre, empreinte de tristesse et de mélancolie.
La chanson Innuendo, qui donne la tonalité générale de l'album, n'est pas sans rappeler les débuts du groupe. En effet les premiers albums de Queen sont caractérisés par le même genre d'envolées lyriques de la part de Mercury, aux frontières de l'opéra et du hard rock. Les autres chansons majeures sont I'm Going Slightly Mad, These Are The Days Of Our Lives, et le célèbre The Show Must Go On, sorte de testament poignant de Freddie Mercury. Freddie rappelle aussi avec Delilah (déclaration d'amour à son chat !) qu'il gardera jusqu'au bout son sens de l'humour.
L'édition vinyl comporte des versions raccourcies de plusieurs chansons.
Les illustrations de pochette sont inspirées de celles du caricaturiste français Grandville (1803-1847).
