In Through the Out Door est un album de rock anglais du groupe Led Zeppelin, enregistré en novembre et décembre de 1978 au Polar Studio à Stockholm, Suède, et sorti sur le label Swan Song Records le 15 août 1979 (voir 1979 en musique). L'album a été appelé ainsi parce que, en raison des récents problèmes du groupe et de la montée du punk rock, essayer de revenir dans l'esprit du public était comme essayer de revenir par la "Porte arrière" ("Out door"), plutôt que par la "Porte avant" ("In door").

La pochette du disque microsillon original était une de six images de la même scène dans un bar (dans laquelle un homme brûle une lettre), chaque photo étant d'un angle différent, du point de vue de quelqu'un qui apparaissait sur les autres photos. Les images ont été créées par Hipgnosis.

C'était le dernier album de Led Zeppelin pendant que le groupe était encore ensemble. Le batteur John Bonham est décédé l'année suivante le 25 septembre 1980.

Anecdotes

  • Le texte de la chanson All my love est un message de Robert Plant à son fils Karac, mort en 1977 d'une infection pulmonaire.
  • Carrouselambra est la seule chanson studio dans laquelle Jimmy Page utilisa sa Gibson à double manche.
  • Les chansons Wearing and Tearing, Ozone Baby et Darlene auraient dû faire partie de l'album, mais à cause d'un manque de place elles ne furent pas retenues. Elles apparurent plus tard dans l'album Coda.
