Florence Lawrence

Florence Lawrence est une actrice canadienne, née le 2 janvier 1886 à Ontario, Canada et décédée le 28 décembre 1938[1] à Beverly Hills[2], Los Angeles, États-Unis[3].

Biographie

Dès 1907, elle tourna pour la Vitagraph Company of America, puis en 1908 pour l'American Mutoscope and Biograph Company, où elle tournait pas moins de deux films par semaine pour le réalisateur D. W. Griffith[4]. On la surnomma la Biograph Girl, et elle touchait un salaire de 1000 US$ par semaine[4].

Elle se maria trois fois, sans jamais avoir d'enfants, avec le réalisateur Harry Solter (du 2 août 1908 au 2 mars 1920), puis avec Charles Bryne Woodring (du 12 mai 1921 jusqu'en 1932), et enfin avec Henry Bolton (du 7 novembre  1933 jusqu'en mars 1934)[2].

En 1909, elle joua dans les films réalisés par son mari, pour l'Independent Moving Pictures Company of America (IMP), puis en 1911 pour Lubin Manufacturing Company, créé par Siegmund Lubin.

En 1912, elle crée, avec son premier mari, la Victor Film Company[5] qui débuta avec le film In Swift Waters.

Après son premier mariage, elle a moins de succès. En 1936, les scènes jouées par elle dans Hollywood Boulevard sont coupées. Elle finit par se suicider[2] en avalant un insecticide[6].
