Thomas R. Kobayashi mieux connu sous le nom d'Emphasis est un compositeur franco-japonais de musique électronique. Né à Tokyo et vécu à Paris, il sera inspiré par ces différentes cultures dans sa musique. Il a passé son adolescence au lycée Carnot, comme le célèbre groupe Daft Punk qui lui a donné beaucoup d'inspirations.

En prenant une bonne dose d'Electronica, une poignée de House, un semblant de Game Music et en mettant le tout dans une sauce Ambient, la musique d'Emphasis ne sonne pas comme les autres groupes d'Electro. Son premier album An Utopian World s'éloignait un peu de l'Electro pour ressembler davantage à des musiques de films, cependant, il revient dans un style purement électronique pour son prochain album qui est prévu pour 2007 ou 2008.
