Edward Montagu (1602 - 5 mai 1671), était 2e comte de Manchester et membre du parlement de l'Angleterre pour le Huntingdonshire (1623-1626). Il a succédé au titre de son père en 1642, à l'orée de la Première révolution anglaise. C'est alors qu'il dirige un régiment de l'armée du comte d'Essex. En août 1643, il devient major-général et Olivier Cromwell le seconde.

Il est membre du Committee of Both Kingdoms et remporte Marston Moor. Cependant, ses opérations suivantes manquent d'énergie et la discorde avec Cromwell s'installe. Cromwell débat des manques de Mantagu au Parlement et celui-ci anticipant la Self-denying Ordinance, démissionne tôt en 1644. Il prend part à des négociations avec Charles Ier.

Il s'oppose au jugement du Roi, lequel a mené à son régicide, et se retire de la vie publique durant l'Interrègne anglais. Suite à la Restauration anglaise, il est couvert d'honneurs par Charles II.

Il a été Lord Chamberlain de 1660 à 1671.
