Structure glandulaire épidermique caractéristique d'une famille d'Annélides, les Clitellates (qui comprend les Oligochètes (lombric) et les Achètes (sangsue)) et qui s'étend généralement sur plusieurs anneaux (ou métamères) dans la moitié antérieure de l'animal. Le clitellum sécrète un cocon muqueux dans lequel les Clitellates déposent leurs oeufs. Le cocon permet d'éviter la déshydratation et apporte des substances nutritives essentielles à l'embryon. Le clitellum est donc une structure essentielle de l'adaptation des Clitellates au milieu terrestre.
