Bungoma (district)

Le district de Bungoma est l’un des quatre districts de la province occidentale du Kenya. Son chef-lieu est la ville de Bungoma. Il s’étend sur les pentes méridionales et les contreforts du Mont Elgon, en bordure de l’Ouganda. Il occupe une surface de 3 074 km² et comprend les divisions de Kanduyi, Webuye, Sirisia, Cheptais, Kapsokwony, Kimilili, Tongaren, Central, Bumula et Kopsiro.

Les sols y sont en général fertiles, et correctement arrosés avec des précipitations moyennes comprises entre 1000 et 1800mm selon l’endroit. La saison fertile dure plus de 270 jours dans la quasi-totalité du district. On y cultive maïs, orge, froment, éleusine, ainsi que, de manière plus localisée, café, thé, coton, pyrèthre et la canne à sucre, ce qui en fait une des régions les plus agricoles du pays.
