Bonhams est une maison de vente aux enchères fondée en 1793[1], ce qui en fait la plus ancienne maison de vente aux enchères d'art et d'antiquités toujours détenues par des anglais. Elle a été fondée par Thomas Dodd, un commerçant de livres anciens et Walter Bonham, un spécialiste en livres. C'est la troisième plus grosse maison de ventes aux enchères après Sotheby's et Christie's et procède à environ 700 ventes aux enchères par an. L'effectif est de 700 employés. Le directeur actuel est Robert Brooks.
L'entreprise a des hôtel de ventes à Londres dans la New Bond Street et Knightsbridge. Bonhams opère aux États-Unis en tant que Bonhams et Butterfield et en Australie en tant que Bonhams et Goodmans. En 1999, comme Bonhams n'avait pas de département d'automobile, ils ont joint Brooks, un spécialiste commissaire-priseur.
En 2001, Bonhams ont pris les commandes des opérations britanniques de commissaire-priseur Phillips - le reste de cette compagnie opère maintenant en tant que Philips de Pure & Company, principalement aux USA.
En France l'entreprise est présente à Paris avec comme Commissaire-priseur habilité Maître Guiseppi. Elle a obtenu son agrément auprès du Conseil des ventes en 2007.
