That was just your life est le titre d'ouverture du plus récent album du groupe Metallica, Death Magnetic.

Description

La chanson débute par des battements de cœur, signe de la «résurrection» du groupe. Ensuite, une intro en clean laisse place à un riff à distorsion dévastateur.
Le tempo de la chanson est très rapide et ce morceau ouvrira également la quasi-totalité des concerts de la tournée World Magnetic Tour, à l'instar des chansons telles Battery et Blackened lors des concerts des tournées Master of puppets et Damaged Justice Tour. Les paroles parlent du fait que la vie passe trop vite et qu'il faut en profiter.
Évidemment, pour vraiment signifier le retour du groupe à ses sources, Kirk Hammett exécute un solo extrêmement rapide au milieu de la chanson.
