La Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), (en arabe : جامعة السلطان قابوس, est la première et la plus importante université du Sultanat d'Oman. C'est une université publique qui doit son nom au sultan Qabus ibn Said au pouvoir depuis 1970. Elle est située sur le territoire de la ville d'Al-Khod, près de la capitale, Mascate.
Histoire
En 1980, le jour de la Fête nationale qui commémorait le 10e anniversaire de son accession au trône, le sultan annonça la création d'une université[1]. Les travaux commencèrent en 1982 et l'université, inaugurée en 1986, accueillit la même année ses premiers étudiants.
Les cinq premières filières mises en place furent : Médecine, Ingénierie, Agriculture, Éducation et Sciences.
