Historique

Raising Sand a été enregistré aux États-Unis, (Nashville & Los Angeles), en 2007. Il est paru le 23 octobre 2007 sur le label Rounder Records et a été produit par T-Bone Burnett, qui a aussi compilé les titres pour cet album.
Il s'agit en fait de reprises d'artistes américains, une seule composition,Please Read the Letter, vient de l'album Walking into Clarksdale que Robert Plant enregistra avec Jimmy Page en 1998.

Cet album remportera 5 Grammy Awards lors de la 51e édition en 2009, dont celui de l'album de l'année et sera certifié disque de platine notamment aux États-Unis, au Canada et au Royaume-Uni.

Raising Sand atteindra 2e place au Billboard 200 où il restera classé pendant 72 semaines. Il sera classé 1e dans la catégorie "Rock Albums" et second dans celle des "Country Albums[1]. Il atteindra aussi la 2e place dans les charts britanniques[2].

Une tournée, qui passera par l' Europe, suivra la sortie de cet album.Robert Plant et Alison Krauss joueront des titres de cet album, quelques classiques traditionnels américains et des chansons de Led Zeppelin, remaniées pour l'occasion.

Robert Plant et Alison Krauss se sont réunis en 2009 pour réfléchir à la production d'un deuxième album en commun mais le projet fut abandonné.
