Le Midnight Special était un train de nuit quittant Houston au Texas à minuit. Il se dirigeait vers l'Ouest, son trajet le faisant passer devant la prison-ferme de Sugarland. La lampe à l'avant du train est devenue un symbole de liberté pour les noirs de l'Est du Texas.
