The Foreign Exchange

The Foreign Exchange est un groupe de rap américain composé en 2002 et formé de deux membres : Phonte, le MC, également membre d'un autre groupe de rap, Little Brother, et Nicolay, un producteur néerlandais, qui est souvent comparé à Pete Rock. Little Brother était d'ailleurs apparu sur l'album Soul Survivor 2 de Pete Rock. Si on devait les comparer, son style se rapproche assez bien de celui de Dwele par exemple.

Sa réunion avec Nicolay débouche sur un premier album en 2004, Connected, dans lequel se mêlent rap, R'n'B et soul, pour un résultat qui réunit tous ces genres. La particularité de cet album est que ses membres l'ont réalisé sans se rencontrer, simplement grâce à Internet, Nicolay envoyant des beats à Phonte, qui posait dessus ensuite. Le nom de l'album était dès lors tout trouvé.
