Walter Butler, né le 16 août 1956, est un homme d'affaires franco-américain.

Biographie

Américain par son père et brésilien par sa mère, il débarque en France en 1964 suite au divorce de ses parents. Après avoir étudié au Lycée Saint-Genès (Bordeaux), il entre à l'Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux, obtient une maîtrise de droit. Il rentre à l'ENA en 1980 avec les encouragements de Dominique de Villepin dont il aidera le frère par la suite.

Il choisit à sa sortie, le corps de l'Inspection des Finances.

Après des missions de contrôle de perceptions en France et en Afrique, il devient en 1986 conseiller de François Léotard au Ministère de la Culture. Il participe à la privatisation de TF1 en compagnie de Jean-Marie Messier.

Il est ensuite embauché par la banque américaine Goldman Sachs, et part aux États-Unis. Il découvre alors le capital-risque. Il crée en 1991 une entreprise de capital-risque : Butler Capital Partners. Il entre au capital de l'agence de publicité BDDP en 1994.

Proche de Dominique de Villepin, il fait partie du Conseil d'analyse économique, qui a joué le rôle de boîte à idées pendant le mandat de l'ancien Premier Ministre français.

Walter Butler est marié à Laetitia Butler, et a deux enfants.
