Éminence thénar

L'éminence thénar est une saillie musculaire arrondie à la partie antéro-supérieure de la main, sous le pouce

Elle est constituée de quatre muscles :

  • l'adducteur du pouce, innervé par le nerf ulnaire, permet l'adduction du pouce
  • le court fléchisseur du pouce, innervé dans sa partie superficielle par le nerf médian et dans sa partie profonde par le nerf ulnaire, permet la flexion et l'adduction du pouce
  • l'opposant du pouce, innervé par le nerf médian, amène le pouce en opposition des autres doigts
  • le court abducteur du pouce, innervé par le nerf médian, permet l'abduction et la rotation médiale du pouce.


Le thénar et l'hypothénar sont extrêmement utilisés en magie pour réaliser des empalmage avec des pièces par exemple. Cette technique consiste à pincer un petit objet entre ces deux muscles afin de donner l'illusion que la main est vide.
