The Jordanaires est un groupe musical américain formé en 1948 à Springfield (Missouri).

  • Bill Matthews : premier ténor

  • Monty Matthews : baryton
  • Culley Holt : basse
  • Bob Money : pianiste

Après 3 ans, Money fut remplacé par un nouveau pianiste, Gordon Stoker, qui devint également premier ténor lorsque Matthews quitta le groupe. Puis Hoyt Hawkins remplaça Bob Hubbard en 1952. Le groupe évoluera régulièrement avec le décès des membres fondateurs dans les années 1990.

Histoire

Les Jordanaires est un groupe de country music ayant travaillé avec des artistes tels que Patsy Cline, Johnny Horton, Ferlin Husky, Tammy Wynette, Kenny Rogers, Ween, Red Foley, Jim Reeves, et George Jones. Ils ont aussi fait les chœurs pour des artistes pop comme Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Connie Francis et Julie Andrews.

Mais ils sont surtout connus dans le monde en tant que choristes pour un grand nombre de succès d'Elvis Presley avec qui ils ont chanté pendant plus de 15 ans sur une centaine de chansons. Les Jordanaires ont aussi chanté pour Ricky Nelson sur "Poor Little Fool," "Lonesome Town," "It's Late," et d'autres enregistrements.

Ils ont récemment chanté avec The Tractors (de Steve Ripley), avec Tennessee Ernie Ford et fait plusieurs enregistrements. Ils ont également fourni des back-up vocaux pour rockabilly star Gene Summers 1981 sur son album "Gene Summers à Nashville" (Big Beat Records, France).

Récompenses

Ils ont remporté un Grammy Award dans la catégorie Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Album.
