Synopsis
Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, dans un camp disciplinaire britannique en plein désert de Libye, se dresse une colline artificielle construite par les prisonniers qui doivent en outre la monter et descendre sous le soleil, surveillés par le sergent Williams qui s'en délecte...
Ce film (britannique mais réalisé par un Américain) suit l'évolution psychologique de cinq hommes, confrontés à de perpétuels « exercices » vains et brimades, sous la houlette d'un sous-officier sadique. La Colline des hommes perdus dénonce cet abus de pouvoir et la prétendue « thérapie » à laquelle sont soumis les soldats rebelles à la hiérarchie militaire (dont l'organisation est également dénoncée). Le film, efficace et sans concessions, donne à Sean Connery un rôle aux antipodes de ses James Bond contemporains.
