C'est la première Silly Symphony réalisée par de Ben Sharpsteen^[3].

Il est possible de voir dans The Hot Chocolate Soldiers (1934) les prémices de la Silly Symphony Carnaval des gâteaux (1935), comprenant elle aussi des personnages en pâtisseries^[4]. Ben Sharpsteen, animateur expérimenté pour The Hot Chocolate Soldiers, fut promu réalisateur peu avant Carnaval des gâteaux sur le Mickey Mouse Two-Gun Mickey (1934).
