Histoire
Les Bluesbreakers se sont formés au début des années 1960 avec des membres qui ne cesseront d'évoluer au fil de l'existence du groupe.
Eric Clapton les rejoint en 1965 juste après la sortie de leur premier album. Clapton, dont les influences blues s'adaptent parfaitement à la musique de Mayall qui le met au premier plan du groupe. Peu de temps avant, le guitariste avait quitté les Yardbirds dont il désapprouvait l'orientation pop. Ils enregistrent alors "John Mayall's Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton".
Cette année là, le groupe perd son contrat avec Decca mais sort un single appelé "I'm Your Witchdoctor" avant de revenir chez Decca en 1966. Fin 1966, un nouvel album "Bluesbreakers" est publié et atteint le Top Ten au Royaume-Uni.
Eric Clapton et Jack Bruce quittent le groupe en 1966 pour créer Cream. Clapton est alors remplacé par Peter Green pour enregistrer l'album "A Hard Road" après lequel il quittera lui aussi le groupe pour former Fleetwood Mac. Enfin, en 1969, le groupe perd son troisième guitariste virtuose lorsque Mick Taylor rejoint les Rolling Stones. La fin des années 1960 leur permet également de jouïr d'une certaine popularité aux États-Unis.
Avec quelques interruptions, les Bluesbreakers ont continué à tourner et à enregistrer des albums (plus de 50 jusqu'à aujourd'hui) bien qu'ils n'aient jamais retrouvé la célébrité de leurs débuts. En 2003, John Mayall célébra son anniversaire avec un "70th Birthday Concert". En 2004, le groupe était constitué de Buddy Whittington, Joe Yuele, Hank Van Sickle et Tom Canning, et le groupe joua au Royaume-Uni avec Mick Taylor.
