The Blue Nile est le nom d´un groupe pop, originaire de Glasgow (Écosse) formé au début des années 1980.
Histoire du groupe
Bien que peu productif (quatre albums en une vingtaine d'années), le groupe a acquis au cours des années le statut rare de groupe culte, porté aux nues par une poignée de fans à travers le monde et par de nombreux artistes parmi lesquels on compte Isaac Hayes, Peter Gabriel, Annie Lennox et Robbie Robertson (The Band), Rickie Lee Jones entre autres. Une chanson de leur premier album intitulée « Tinseltown in the Rain » fut un mini-tube au début des années 80 (reprise par Andrea Corr sur son album Lifelines).
Paradoxalement, c'est grâce à l'album de Craig Armstrong "The Space Between Us" en 1997 qu'une nouvelle génération de mélomanes va découvrir la voix de Paul Buchanan, puisqu'il y interprète "Let's go out tonight", réarrangé par Armstrong, par ailleurs un temps proche collaborateur de Massive Attack.
