Terence Hanbury White est un auteur anglais né en 1906 à Bombay (Inde) et décédé en 1964.

Il gardera de son enfance une sensibilité à fleur de peau ainsi qu'un état de névrosé. Afin de vaincre ses frayeurs et son sentiment permanent du danger, il apprend à piloter les avions, conduire des bolides, sauter en parachute, pêcher le saumon. Etudiant brillant dans les années 1930 à Cambridge, il se retira néanmoins en Irlande, fuyant ses semblables, se consacrant à ses passions : les chiens, les oiseaux, les paysages, mais également le Moyen Âge, l'histoire naturelle et les fées.

Il est le fils d'un policier indien et alcoolique, Garrick Hansbury White, et d'une mère froide, Constance White. J. K. Rowling décrit White comme "l'ancêtre spirituel de Harry Potter."

Œuvres

Son cycle romanesque, La quête du roi Arthur - Once and Future King - dénonce par le biais de la fantasy les régimes fasciste et nazi. Elle comprend :
