Saint-Siméon

Saint-Siméon est une municipalité dans la municipalité régionale de comté de Charlevoix-Est au Québec (Canada), située dans la région administrative de la Capitale-Nationale. Elle est nommée en l'honneur de Siméon Ier de Jérusalem.

Saint-Siméon est le terminus nord d'un traversier exploité par la Société des traversiers du Québec qui le relie à Rivière-du-Loup sur la rive sud du Saint-Laurent.

Le hameau de Port-au-Persil est inclus dans la municipalité.

La forêt (on y trouve le Parc d’Aventure en montagne Les Palissades) et le tourisme (excursions aux baleines, pêche à l'éperlan) sont les principales activités de Saint-Siméon.

Histoire

La municipalité a été formée à l'origine en 1869, détachée de Saint-Fidèle-de-Mont-Murray (maintenant dans La Malbaie). En 1911, le village (noyau central) et la paroisse se séparent, comme il était courant à cette époque, pour se refusionner en 2001.

La chapelle de Port-au-Persil, au bord du fleuve Saint-Laurent

Port-au-Persil est un hameau situé sur le territoire de la municipalité de Saint-Siméon.

Baptisé par Samuel de Champlain, le village fut fondé par Neil McLaren, un immigrant écossais, à la fin du XIXe siècle. Il compte aujourd'hui une centaine d'habitants.

La chapelle

La chapelle en bois de Port-au-Persil a été construite par McLaren, en 1893, au bord de l'eau. Elle est aujourd'hui une propriété privée.
