Le Samajwadi Party (parti socialiste en hindi), ou SP, est un parti politique indien. Il a été fondé en octobre 1992, à la suite d'une scission avec le Janata Dal. Surtout localisé dans l'État de l'Uttar Pradesh, le plus peuplé de l'Union indienne, le Samajwadi Party est avant tout implanté parmi les Yadav. Ceux-ci forment la caste la plus étendue en Inde, classée généralement parmi les basses castes (Other backwar castes ou OBC) ou parmi les castes intermédiaires (kshatriya) se consacrant traditionnellement à l'élevage du bétail. Les musulmans figurent également parmi la base électorale du Samajwadi Party.

Dans l'Uttar Pradesh, le Samajwadi Party a été à la tête du gouvernement local entre 1993 et 1995, lors d'une alliance avec le Bahujan Samaj Party (parti des intouchables), et depuis 2003. Le Premier Ministre de l'État a alors été Mulayam Singh Yadav, leader du parti et ministre de la Défense au sein de la coalition National Front-Left Front (partis de gauche et régionaux) entre 1996 et 1998. Plusieurs députés de son parti ont été impliqués dans des affaires de corruption, et leurs relations avec des membres du crime organisé ont été avérées. Mulayam Singh Yadav a cependant fait campagne en 2003 sur la corruption du précédent gouvernement local, et sur le chômage.

Au niveau national, le Samajwadi Party n'est allié à aucun des partis menant les deux coalitions qui alternent au pouvoir, le BJP (droite nationaliste) ou le Parti du Congrès (centre-gauche). Il dispose de 36 sièges sur les 543 de la Lok Sabha (parlement indien) depuis les élections de mai 2004 (en progression de 10 sièges par rapport à 1999).
