SM Entertainment est une maison de disques coréenne fondée par Lee Soo Man en 1995. À sa création, "SM" faisait référence aux initiales de Lee Soo Man, mais sa signification a été officiellement changée pour "Star Museum" ("Musée des Stars", en français). SM Entertainment est une compagnie surtout connue pour avoir lancé des artistes devenus par la suite de véritables légendes, comme les groupes H.O.T. et S.E.S., mais est malgré tout aujourd'hui l'une des plus grandes compagnies de divertissement coréenne. En partenariat avec Avex Trax, elle participe également à la production de chanteurs japonais comme Ayumi Hamasaki ou encore Koda Kumi. En 2006, SM Entertainment a fêté son 10ème anniversaire. SM Entertainment produit aussi des groupes coréens très connus en Asie et dans le monde entier, comme Girls' Generation (SNSD), Shinee, Super Junior ou f(x).
