Sir Richard Hoare (1648-1718) est un orfèvre britannique ayant fondé en 1690 la banque qui porte encore son nom, l'une des premières banques commerciales de l'histoire et le seul établissement anglais qui ait survécu jusque à nos jours, sous le nom de C. Hoare.
En 1672, à l'âge de 24 ans, il fonde sa propre boutique d'orfèvrerie, du nom de "La bouteille d'or" (golden bottle) où il prend immédiatement l'habitude d'offrir des services de prêts en échange de produits en or. Il se spécialise dans la banque et agrandit ses locaux en s'installant à Fleet Street à partir de 1690 puis profite en 1694 de la création de la banque d'Angleterre. Il est anobli par la Reine puis élu Lord Maire de la Ville de Londres en 1712
