Porcelain est une ballade des Red Hot Chili Peppers, sortie en 1999 sur l'album Californication.

Étonnamment douce pour cet album, dont les pistes sont plutôt orientées vers un rock rapide, voir agressif (Get on Top, Right on Time, ou le plus connu Around the World ), cette chanson fut en fait inspirée par une femme que l'auteur, Anthony Kiedis, le chanteur du groupe, avait rencontré à une réunion durant une cure de désintoxication (il était à l'époque héroïnomane) : "Elle vivait dans un foyer d'hébergement religieux avec sa petite fille ; elle essayait de décrocher sans le moindre succès", explique-t-il dans son autobiographie. "Toute la beauté, la tristesse, la douleur et la magie de cette relation mère-fille passait dans les accents de cette mélodie."

Le riff de cette chanson a en fait été trouvé alors que le chanteur cherchait une mélodie pour le célébrissime Californication : "Toutes les autres chansons coulaient de source, pourtant : on travaillait depuis quelques semaines à peine quand quelqu'un a trouvé un riff très lent qui ne ressemblait à rien de ce qu'on avait fait jusque-là", raconte-t-il. "En l'entendant, j'ai su qu'on tenait notre nouvelle compo, Porcelain."
