Le mot d'origine anglo-saxonne pitch, employé comme nom commun, peut avoir les significations suivantes :

  • en science des matériaux, le mot "pitch" désigne la poix.
  • en électronique, le pitch ou pas de perçage est la distance entre les trois éléments de phosphore (rouge, vert et bleu) constituant un point de l'écran.
  • un pitch synthétise l'histoire d'une œuvre de fiction en une phrase, ou un petit paragraphe.
  • en linguistique, un pitch est un type d'intonation rencontrée dans certaines langues, également appelé accent de hauteur ou accent musical.
  • un pitch est aussi un angle vertical, entre 0° et 90°, permettant de situer un point précisément sur une trace d'azimut. Voir aussi : canevas de Wulf.
  • le pitch, pour un DJ, est la modification de la vitesse d'une musique (sur vinyle, CD, ou sur MP3...). Le pitch se mesure en pourcentage de la vitesse originale de la musique. Modifier la vitesse entraîne aussi une modification du ton de la musique.
