Vanadinite

La vanadinite est un minéral composé de chlorovanadate de plomb de formule Pb5(VO4)3Cl. On l'exploite comme minerai de vanadium, notamment pour durcir l'acier.

La vanadinite possède des cristaux hexagonaux, en prismes ou caverneux quand ils sont de taille importante. Sa couleur est souvent orangée, mais peut être aussi parfois rouge à cause de traces colorantes de chrome.

Gisements

On la trouve dans les gisements de plomb. Les principaux sont situés dans les monts Oural (Russie), en Autriche, en Écosse, au Maroc, en Argentine, et aux États-Unis dans le Colorado, l'Arizona, le Dakota du Sud.
