Knuckles the Echidna (ナックルズ・ザ・エキドゥナ, Nakkuruzu za Ekiduna?) (prononcer « nekeulse » en anglais) est un personnage de jeu vidéo dans les séries Sonic. C'est un échidné rouge de 17 ans doté de dreadlocks. Knuckles est le gardien de l'île flottante et de l'émeraude mère. Il possède des gants à pointes, ce qui lui permet de détruire certaines choses comme par exemple des piliers de pierre.

Dans Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic et Tails atterrissent sur l'île ainsi que Robotnik. Robotnik a besoin des émeraudes du chaos et de l'émeraude mère. Il dupe Knuckles en lui disant que Sonic et Tails sont ses vrais ennemis. Alors que Sonic et Knuckles se battent, Robotnik, en profite pour voler l'émeraude mère. Quand Knuckles comprend qu'il a été dupé, il devint ami avec Sonic. Mais il est à nouveau berné dans Sonic Pocket Adventure, Sonic and Tails 2, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Advance 2.

Dans Sonic Adventure 2, l'émeraude mère a été cassée et Knuckles tente d'en récupérer les morceaux.

Dans Sonic et le Chevalier Noir, il apparaît dans le rôle de Gauvain, chevalier de la table ronde et second boss, avant d'être personnage jouable. Il manie deux épée courtes.

Dans Sonic 2006, il aide Sonic à stopper Eggman.

Dans Sonic Rivals, il veut récupérer la Master Emerald, transformée en carte par Eggman.
