Humanitas Prize

Humanitas Prize est une récompense pour l'écriture d'un film ou série TV considéré comme promouvant la dignité humaine, sa signification et la liberté.

Elle est née dans les années 70 du père Ellwood Kieser, mais n'est généralement pas associée à une œuvre spécifiquement "religieuse". En 1975 Ray Bradbury, le père "Bud", et Robert Abernathy annoncent les premiers gagnants sur le Today show. Le prix a d'abord commencé comme récompense d'œuvres télévisuelles.

À présent, les Humanitas Prize sont séparés en différentes catégories : Film (Feature Film), Téléfilm de 90 minutes (Prime Time TV 90 minute), Téléfilm de 60 minutes (Prime Time TV 60 minute), série TV de 30 minutes (Prime Time TV 30 minute), émission pour enfants (Children's Live Action), Dessin animé pour enfants (Children's Animation), et film de Sundance (Sundance Feature Film), et (The Angell Comedy Fellowship) qui pourrait se traduire par l'association des comédies d'Angell. Cette association, "camaraderie" a été créé en l'honneur de la mort de David Angell et Lynn Angell, tués dans le vol 11 pendant les attaques du 11 septembre 2001.

En 2005 parmi les récompensés du Humanitas, on retrouve Hotel Rwanda(feature film) et À la Maison Blanche (télévision).

In 2006, le film documentaire An Inconvenient Truth traitant du réchauffement planétaire avec Al Gore, reçut un "Special Award" pour "avoir fait une contribution significative à la famille humaine en transmettant des valeurs, formant des consciences et améliorant le comportement de l'Homme"[1].

Divers

  • Le plus grand nombre de prix remporté par une seule œuvre est quatre, par la série TV M*A*S*H.[2]
