L'université Howard est une université américaine située à Washington, D.C., surnommée Black Harvard. Elle fut fondée en 1867 et baptisée en l'honneur d'Oliver O. Howard. Les étudiants devenus célèbres sont Toni Morrison, Thurgood Marshall (Howard University Law School), Keith Mitchell, Ossie Davis, Debbie Allen, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack, Claude Brown, Shaka Hislop, Richard Smallwood, Jan Carew, cheick Modibo Diarra de la NASA et Phylicia Rashad.

Keith Mitchell, l'actuel premier ministre de la Grenade, y enseigna les mathématiques de 1977 à 1983[1].
