Hedgehog

Hedgehog est une protéine qui fut découverte en 1995 dans la drosophile. Elle est impliquée dans le développement embryonnaire, et joue un rôle important dans la mise en place du plan de l'organisme.

Hedgehog est une protéine cruciale pour le développement embryonnaire tant chez les vertébrés que chez les non vertebrés.

Hedgehog est la seule protéine connue pour être liée de façon covalente au cholestérol.

Les mammifères possèdent trois analogues à la protéine des drosophiles[réf. nécessaire].
