Botanique et Agriculture

Le grain est le fruit et la semence de certains végétaux, en particulier des céréales. Dans l'agriculture céréalière, il désigne souvent le grain de blé, mais par extension le mot désigne tout caryopse.

Métrologie

  • Le grain est une unité ancienne, soit de masse (0,0648 grammes), soit de longueur.1 livre impérial contient 7000 grains. Cette mesure est surtout utilisé par les personnes qui recharge des cartouches d'arme à feu. Cette mesure est très précise au dixième de grain près.
  • La granulométrie permet la classification des différents types de grains selon leurs tailles.

Météorologie

En météorologie maritime: Un grain est un vent violent et de peu de durée qui s'élève soudainement et qui est généralement accompagné de précipitations.
