Gabriele Paleotti (Bologne, 4 octobre 1522 – Rome, 23 juillet 1597) est un cardinal italien, qui fut archevêque de Bologne.
Biographie
À la demande du pape Pie IV, Gabriele Paleotti participe au Concile de Trente qui établit d'importantes réformes de l'Église catholique afin de surpasser la réforme de l'Église protestante.
En 1565, il est créé cardinal au titre de Santi Nereo e Achilleo, et en 1567, il est nommé évêque de Bologne, avant que son diocèse soit élevé en archidiocèse en 1582.
Militant pour un art religieux simple et direct, à fonction essentiellement didactique, à l'opposé du courant maniériste alors en vigueur, il influence les artistes de Bologne dans leur art, comme les membres de la célèbre famille des Carrache : Lodovico, Agostino et Annibale Carracci.
