Edward Waring (1736-15 août 1798) est un mathématicien britannique né à Old Heath (près de Shrewsbury), dans le Shropshire en Angleterre et mort à Pontesbury.

Waring devient professeur lucasien de mathématiques à l'université de Cambridge de 1760 à sa mort. Il est élu à la Royal Society en 1763 et reçoit la médaille Copley en 1784.

Son travail le plus connu est Meditationes Algebraicae portant sur la théorie des équations, la théorie des nombres et la géométrie. C'est dans cet ouvrage qu'il pose l'assertion connu sous le nom de problème de Waring.
